Food for thought

Anyone who has done any reading on Nutrition will know that there is a lot of contradicting information from intelligent sounding sources. So it is hard to get a definitive answer, and taking a middle road will be sub-optimal at best.

So while I can not verify the information below, it certainly makes common sense, and is likely to do far more good than harm.

When it comes to health and Quality of life, I have found these ideas useful..

 

11 things that effect the health of you Brain and other major organs.


1. Eat a good Breakfast (Fruit)
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This lead s to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration. For more on fruit.

2 . Eat smaller meals more often

Salads, fruit and unprocessed foods are the very best foods for you body. Try reduce the amount of fatty foods and processed foods you consume, this will reduce hardening of the arteries, including those that supply the brain

3. Avoid Smoking and exposure to air pollution.
The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency. Smoking is linked to brain shrinkage and increases risk of Alzheimer disease.

4. High Refined Sugar consumption 
Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition of the organs tissues and greatly increases risk of adult onset diabetes. Part of the Pancreas has the job of maintaining ideal blood sugar levels by releasing insulin. When you take a massive sugar hit, (such as a soft drink) your body in turn releases lots of insulin to the blood stream, in fact overcompensating and leaving you feeling sleepy and in need of another massive sugar hit. Can you imagine parents feeding children soft drinks as a way of re-hydrating them?


5. Sleep Deprivation 
Sleep allows our brains and other organs to rest and repair. Long term sleep deprivation will accelerate the death of brain cells and the aging of all body tissues. The body needs rest and nutrition to heal itself.

6. Increase and maintain your muscle mass.

Muscle burns fat while you are asleep. Muscle tissue does not get cancer, I suspect this is in part due to its fantastic blood supply, remember this means it gets oxygen and nutrition in and can clear waste and toxins out. Studies show that 90 year olds have the same capacity to grow muscles as young people. A good reason to look


7. Air in Head
Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decreases concentration of oxygen. Open the windows at night when possible, go windsurfing and breathe the clean sweet air of the wild places.

8. Don't strain your brain

Working hard or studying during times of illness can overload the brain tissues ability to heal itself. Take short breaks and use advanced learning techniques to make your study more interesting and effective.


9. Use it or loose it.
Problem solving is exercise for the brain, making fresh connections between ideas and utilising your memory. Of course concentrating on the space between your thoughts and experiencing simply "being" without the filter of beliefs is the highest practice of all.

10. Drink more water, and then drink some more.

Everything that you put into your body, your body must filter, take the repair materials from and dispose of the rest. The job of filtering is enormous and apart from limiting the entry of damaging compounds into the system. The best way to help your body with the task is to drink a lot of plain fresh water at a temperature that is not too much of a shock to the organs. When your urine is clear, then drink one more cup of water. If your urine is Dark yellow, you may well be damaging your kidneys.

11. Belief is Ignorance

Once you believe something, you stop seeing things clearly with a fresh perspective. Beliefs are useful for filtering the enormous amount of raw information that we are bombarded with every second. However they come with a high price, they rob you of experiencing the reality of the moment as it is, you loose the ability to see things with out pre-conception. Beliefs that create resistance to the reality of the moment cause fear and tension in your life and in your body. This sort of tension will age you faster than anything else. Although actually very simple, this is hardest to explain and of the greatest impact.

Find a sport you love, that you can do at least once a month, if you cant do it 3 times a week, find a method of cross training with this sport. Then you will have a gauge of your fitness level. I have noticed the people who windsurf at our club over the past 5 years have a very high level of general health without trying particularly hard. Windsurfing provides them with a connection to nature, a space in wilderness to feel free and safe. A general gratitude of being alive on this planet at this time. They do not drink heavily, most do not smoke, many have simplified their lives to a more easy to sustain level of lower debt and more free time.

Windsurfing is fast without being extreme, so we experience very few injuries. Also we need only a little wind to keep in training. We rarely sit around waiting for more wind or a better wind direction, we just get out there and play.

Fruit - You can not go wrong

We know Fruit is good, but is it important when you eat it?

 

If you eat fruit on an empty stomach, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss exercise and other life activities. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so. In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid.

The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.... So try eating your fruit on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining ˜ every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc ˜ actually all this may not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat! Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes are all claimed to arise from bad eating practice.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight. When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get the taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins. But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it.

KIWI:Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE:An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE :Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene ˜ the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA:Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content.. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes. Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer!Can u believe this?? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

Cucumber: Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache?  Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!! Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints?  Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.
